Descriptive Writing Uses detail for support Types: – Spatial order (order that it appears) – Order of importance – Chronological order (time order) – Sensory (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell)
Narrative Writing Tells about events or actions as they change over a period of time (tells a story) Typically has story elements: character, setting, and plot
Persuasive Writing Aims at convincing people to think or act in a certain way Steps: – Purpose – Audience – Evidence – Format
Expository Writing Aims at informing and explaining Examples: – Research papers – News articles – How to books/instruction manuals – Essays Introduction with thesis statement Body Conclusion
