Animal Facts Movement Dolphins lift their tail up and down while swimming. Dolphins like to leap out of the water because they are very playful animals. Description Dolphins have grey skin . Some are lighter and some are darker . They are 8-10 feet long .dolphins weigh300 to 600 pounds . They have a layer of fat underneath their skin for warmth . Bottlenose dolphins are found in every ocean. Most dolphins live in saltwater but they can also live in freshwater. Dolphins survive because they have blubber to keep them warm and blowholes to breathe. 4 Life Cycle Dolphins are born through a live birth. One baby dolphin is born at a time and it takes one year to be born. Mother dolphins take care of their babies for six years. Baby dolphins are born with whiskers that fall out soon after their birth. A picture of the animal as a baby or young. Baby dolphins have a special name :a calf . dolphins live in groups called schools or pods. There are dolphins in a pod. Adult dolphins have two flippers on their sides and a triangular fin on their back. 5 Animal Interactions Dolphins protect themselves by traveling in pods. They communicate with other animals by making whistling noise with their mouth. This is a picture of dolphins swimming in pods which they do to protect themselves. The picture below shows the dolphins predator which is a shark. Dolphins main predator is the shark. 6 Interesting Facts Teeth Deep Breath Dolphins have 80-100 teeth.
Dolphins can hold their breath for seven minutes. Teeth Dolphins have teeth.
