Teen Living Mrs. Wilson

Resources are things that help us accomplish our goals. Types: Human Material Community Natural

Resources that are found within yourself and other people. Knowledge: everything you have observed, learned, and remembered. Skills: a special set of abilities that allow you to perform certain tasks well. Imagination: your creativity.

Energy: the power that helps you get things done. Time: what you will do in a day and when you will do it. Family and Friends: you can supplement your own knowledge, skills, imagination, energy, and time by calling on the resources of others you are close to.

The physical objects you can use to accomplish your goals. Two Main Types: Possessions and Money Possessions are things you own, which you can use to accomplish your goals. With money you can purchase the products created when other people have used their resources.

Every community has people, facilities, and organizations that help you enjoy life, improve your skills, and solve your problems. Examples: Schools, libraries, government agencies, houses of worship, hospitals, malls, theaters, museums, parks, and mass transit systems.

The resources found in nature; some are necessary for survival. Examples: air, water, soil, plants, animals, minerals, and sources of mechanical energy. Conserve natural resources so that they will last as long as possible. Natural resources create a sense of beauty that enhances the quality of human life.

Goals are something you want to accomplish in your life. You have to use RESOURCES to accomplish your goals.

Short Term: can be reached in a short amount of time. (days or weeks) Long Term: will take longer to reach. (months or years) Fixed: goals you reach at a specific time. (i.e. If you want a part in the school play, you will need to be ready for tryouts) Flexible: goals that change in given situations. (i.e. Building your savings account.)

Trace your hand and cut it out of construction paper. On each finger of the paper hand write: (1) a future goal, (2) one value, (3) a short term goal, (4) one want, (5) one need. On the palm of the hand, write at least 5 resources that you will need to help you reach your goals.

Make a list of 10 goals you have for your life. At least one of them must be a short term goal. On a sentence strip, make a timeline of your goals listing the goal and year you would like to accomplish it. Each goal must be represented either by a drawn picture or a picture from a magazine. No pencil marks should show! Be creative with your timeline…these are your goals in your life!
