4 3 3 Why did NCMA create the CMLDP? CM workforce is facing big challenges: aging and retiring at a pace faster than the next generation is replacing them This has created a gap in supervisory, middle management, and executive level positions across the entire profession Not enough high-quality CM professionals to meet today's needs NCMA created the CMLDP to help close the gap

5 4 4 What is CMLDP designed to accomplish? Develop the next generation of contract management leaders through an intensive year-long educational experience o Accelerate organizational and NCMA leadership progression

6 5 5 What type of candidates are we looking for? The “ideal” candidates: - Should have at least 2 years but not more than 8 years of contract management experience - Should not be in a supervisory level position - Must hold an undergraduate degree or higher - Must provide quality responses to application questions (should be thoughtful, clear, and show leadership potential) - Commitment to giving back to NCMA - Letters of recommendations from employer and chapter We are not looking for applicants who are interested in the program to merely enhance their resume

7 6 6 What learning experience can be expected? Events (180+ hours) Webinars (with individual & group assignments) - 8 leadership - 2 governance 4 mandatory face-to-face meetings - GCMC (FranklinCovey, BoD) - Mid-Year Leadership Conference (Leadership & Current NES) - ADC (2 half-day sessions) - World Congress (Leadership Insights) 4 Ethics & Compliance (self-paced) Research Paper

8 What learning experience can be expected? (cont’d) 7 Relationships Mentoring –2 selected/assigned mentors (one within organization and one with NCMA background) –Input on assignments –Assist in achieving student professional development goals Networking –Lifelong relationships with classmates –Access to the captains of our industry

9 What commitment is expected from the candidates? 8 NCMA member for the duration of the program and for two years thereafter Actively serve as a volunteer with local chapter or national level during the program and for two years thereafter Attendance to four national conferences and ancillary events Actively participate in learning sessions and submit all assignments Honor and uphold the Contract Management Code of Ethics throughout professional careerContract Management Code of Ethics

10 How much does the program cost? 9 Nothing and everything!!! NCMA is investing in future leaders, so the cost of materials, instruction, seminars, conferences, and mentoring is provided at no cost to participants (Market value of the training $15K/student) The only expense is travel-related costs to attend the four in-residence events –Candidates may seek support for these expenses in full or part from employers or chapters – Financial support is not provided at the national level

12 CMLDP – Acceptance rate 11 2006 – 2007 class –84 applied, 37 selected (44% selection rate) 2007 – 2008 class –35 applied, 24 selected (69% selection rate) 2008 – 2009 class –76 applied, 42 selected (55% selection rate) 2009 – 2010 class –117 applied, 25 selected (21% selection rate) 2010 – 2011 class - Graduating –136 applied, 25 selected (18% selection rate) Overall totals –448 applied, 153 selected (34% selection rate)

13 Metrics – Return on Expectations Rate of CMLDP graduates holding an NCMA certification to the general NCMA membership (measures professional strength) –General membership certification (excludes CMLDP) = 17% –CMLDP certification (includes grads and students) = 26% Rate of CMLDP graduates being elected to a chapter office including president, president-elect, VP, treasurer, and secretary (measures association strength) –CMLDP grads and students holding chapter offices = 65% –Elected to president, president-elect, or VP = 31%

14 Next Program Year… 13 Call for applications for 2011-12 class –Closed June 30, 2011 –New class of 25 students to be announced by August 31, 2011 2012-13 call for applications will be May 1 – June 30, 2012 Under no circumstances are late applications accepted
