Answer the questions:  How old are you?  What music do you prefer?  What style of clothing do you prefer?  What groupings do you belong to?  What groupings do your friends belong to?  What youth groupings are aggressive?  What ones are peaceful?  What youth grouping would you like to belong to?  What is your favourite subculture?

3. Agree or disagree.  There are a lot of subcultures in the world.  There are a lot of subcultures in Russia.  Rock’n’roll is popular with punks.  Reggae is aggressive.  Hippies wear black leather clothes.  Elvis Prestley was fond of rock’n’roll.  Leather jackets are typical for rockers.

4. Please read some texts with the description of different subcultures. Find the names of these subcultures and describe different groups and members of groups.

6. These people developed their own style distinct from others. A person has college-style hair, a neat white shirt, a short jacket, or a short blazer jacket, and narrow trousers. The clothes are Italian by choice. Pale face, plenty of make-up. Scooters (light motor cycles) are the preferred means of transportation. He or she prefer soul music.

7. Mod

8. A young person who dresses in a shocking way to express his or her identity (who somebody is). He or she has brightly colored hair and wears metal chains. The person is thought to rebel (protest) against the society. Their music is aggressive. They reject (say no to) everything.

9. PUNK

10. A young person who wears a leather jackets, army boots and cowboy hats just to show off. He is associated with something rebellious.

11. ROCKER

12. Some classify these types of people like drug users and rock’n’roll fans, since their behaviours differ from social norms. They don’t conform (don’t keep) to society’s standards and support a liberal attitude and lifestyle. They always want to change the world to the best.

13. HIPPIE

14. These are the ‘wizards’ of the computer community; people with a deep understanding of how their computers work, and can do things with them that seem ‘magical’. They don’t protest against their parents.

15. HACKER

16. These are the folks who use computer- made, synthesized music, and drugs to create massive all-night dance parties in empty warehouses (склад). They like to be in a collective. They want to try out all sort of options (to test all things that they can choose) and are thought to be violent (showing strong physical force).

17. RAVER

18. The members of this subculture wear the blackest black, with a lot of silver jewellery and have very black hair. They look as thin and pale as possible. The members gather together to read Bram Stoker and talk about being vampires, and about the end of the world.

19. GOTH

20. All persons who ride 2 or sometimes 3 wheeled motorized vehicles and who identify themselves with a particular (special) subculture.

21. BIKER

22. They cut their hair shorter than others do. The majority of them are working class, patriotic, reggae and football fanatics, and very uninterested in politics. Most wear tight trousers and heavy boots (Doc Martins) and are usually regarded as violent and aggressive.

23. SKINHEAD
