U.S. Citizen Qualifications Born in the U.S. or in one of its territories (applies even if your parents are not citizens) At least one of your parents was a U.S. citizen when you were born You have been naturalized (gone through the legal citizenship process) You were less than 18 years old when your parents were naturalized

3 Naturalization Alien – a citizen of one country who lives in another country Naturalization Process Applicants submits an application to the USCIS (U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services) Must meet qualifications for citizenship (18 yrs or older, living in country for 5 yrs, no criminal record, read, write, & speak English, pass test) Appearance before a citizenship court who decides whether or not to grant citizenship
