Hello everybody! Here is Mr. Astronaut again and this time I’ll tell you everything I know about the water cycle. So listen carefully, because later you get a very important mission from me. Here we go!

The earth has a limited amount of water. That water keeps going around and around and around and around and … This is what we call the "Water Cycle". This cycle is made up of a few main parts: A) evaporation (and transpiration) B) condensation C) precipitation D) collection

Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air.

Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds. This is called condensation.

Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain hail sleet snow

When water falls back to earth as precipitation, it may fall back in the oceans, lakes or rivers or it may end up on land. When it ends up on land: It will either soak into the earth and become part of the “ground water” that plants and animals use to drink; or it may run over the soil and collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers.

And than the cycle starts all over again! You want to here everything again? Click here!Click here!

And now it's up to you… MISSION: Follow me step by step and make a “Water Cycle”. READY? HERE WE GO!

 a shoebox  scissors  ribbon  blue, green and brown paint + paint brushes  tape  the sun  2 clouds: one with water drops en one with snowflakes and hail  the picture of the mountain with the stream and the ground (on the next page)  4 arrows containing the words - evaporation - condensation - precipitation - collection

 Paint the shoebox inside in light blue. (= the sky)  Beware! Don’t paint the bottom side, because there you have to paint the ocean and land.

 Paint of color the picture of the mountain with the stream and the ground.  - the top of the mountain is white.  - the other part is green.  - the ground is brown  - the stream is dark blue

 Paste the drawing on the bottom of the middle part of your shoebox.  Paint now the lower part of the shoebox. (Land and ocean. Use the colors blue, green and brown.) blue brown green

 Take your sun and clouds. Attach to the sun and the two clouds a ribbon, make holes in the top of the box and hang everything on the right spot in the box. A) The sun on the right. B) The cloud with the water drops above the ground and water. C) The cloud with the snowflakes and hail above the mountain.

The sun on the right.

The cloud with the water drops above the ground and water.

The cloud with the snowflakes and hail above the mountain.

 Paste now the arrows and the 4 key words on the right plate.  Ready? Then you're done!  Congratulations! Nice work!

Ready? Then you're done! Congratulations! Nice work!
