2 LET’S RECAP! We know that there are 4 principal parts Base form The verb as it is Past Add “ed” to the verb Present Participle Past Participle A form of verb to be + ingA form a verb to have + ed

3 LET’S RECAP! A verb tense tells you when the action happens. There are three main verb tenses; past, present and future. Each tense is divided into; simple, perfect, progressive and perfect progressive.

5 PERFECT TENSES FormationExamples “ PastHad + verb+edZain home for lunch. (walk) Presenthas+verb+ed Have+verb+ed Ghina to ballet (go) FutureWill or shal+have+ verb+ ing You the exam before she showed up. (pass) Perfect tenses are always verb phrases. The helping verb in the phrase is always a form of verb to have. Basically write the verb using the past participle. The form of verb to have changes depending on the tense.

6 PROGRESSIVE FORM Progressive forms indicate a continuing action It tells the reader that the action is taking place now The action is in progress– hence the name In progressive forms we use the present participle: verb to be + verb+ing To make it simpler, I am going to categorize the 6 progressive forms into 2 parts: simple progressive and perfect progressive

8 A PROGRESSIVE FORM OF PERFECT TENSES FormationExamples “ Past perfect progressive Had been+verb+ing Zain home for lunch. (walk) Present perfect progressive Has been+ verb+ing Have been+verb+ing Ghina to ballet every Saturday.(go) Future perfect progressive. Will have been+ verb+ing You the exam. (pass) I added verb to have according to the tense with the word been and ended the verb with -ing
