1 Technologies for maritime surveillance and border security Dr Rodoula Makri rodia@esd.ece.ntua.gr Institute of Communications & Computer Systems – National Technical University of Athens (Microwaves & Fiber Optics Lab) Role: partner - WP leader or S/T provider Proposal activity: SEC-19-BES-2016: Data fusion for maritime security applications SEC-20-BES-2016: Border Security: autonomous systems and control systems (both topics) Disclaimer: with the submission of this presentation the consent is given by its author for the organisers to distribute the presentation. SMIG2016 - 26-27 January 2016 1

2 Addressing BES topics - ideas  Maritime / Sea Border and Land Border Security are of major importance both for the Hellenic Homeland Security and the European one.  Greece has the longest coastline (17,000 km) of any other EU/Med country  along with the archipelagic Aegean and Ionian Seas (10,000 islands)  A major part of illegal immigration is localized on the eastern Aegean sea, covering a wide area very near to Asia Minor. The situation is further complicated through the Greek land borders where illegal immigrants and smugglers take advantage of the special terrain characteristics.  The idea is to exploit autonomous & control systems such as radar applications for small moving targets along with UAVs and in combination / fusion with small “green” telecom systems, mobile platforms and satellite imagery for maritime border surveillance and search & rescue applications. SMIG2016 - 26-27 January 2016 2

3 3 Experience we offer as S/T provider  Radar and remote sensing systems Life Detector Radar for people trapped in buildings in case of earthquakes Various frequencies 433 MHz, 2,45GHz, 10GHz Conformal Array Radar Electronic Surveillance Systems VHF and UHF bands Multistatic UHF Early warning radar Detection of small moving targets Data Fusion of multiple multistatic radars Cross-correlation fusion Reconstruction of core evaluation Reinitiating of local and central filters

4 Potential project participants Seek to cooperate with: Coordinator experienced in data fusion topics or integrator Looking for partners with the following expertise / application field: academic institutions/ research centers; radar and other sensors processing and data fusion Providers / companies : offering surveillance platforms SMEs i.e. in optical imagery to incorporate user / application experience SMIG2016 - 26-27 January 2016 4
