15. Should supportive living accommodations be required to offer either personal laundry services or access to personal laundry facilities? Yes or no, please explain. What would be the implications of such a requirement? 15

16. What personal choice services do you think have the greatest bearing on resident quality of life or overall accommodation experience? If you offer personal choice services, how specific should the standard be in considering and responding to resident needs and preferences? 16

17. Should all service providers, regardless of whether a contract is in place, be required to provide evidence that the contractor is qualified for the task, carries required insurance, adheres to all relevant legislation and agrees to protect the confidentiality of resident information? – What would be the impact of this requirement? – Would this requirement substantively improve safety and quality? 17

18. What aspects of social/leisure activities have the greatest bearing on resident quality of life or overall accommodation experience? – Should supportive living and long-term care operators be required to offer social or leisure activities? (right now this standard only applies if social/leisure activities are offered, they aren’t required) – What would the impact be of doing so? – Should the term ‘social or leisure activities’ be revised to ‘social or leisure opportunities’? How specific should the standard be in considering and responding to resident opinions? In other words: – Should a minimum timeframe be established for the collection of resident input and feedback or is ‘periodic’ sufficient? – Should family input be required, collected and considered as well? (i.e., when they are the voice of the resident) 18

19. Are there ways the standard needs to be improved to better balance food preferences expressed by residents while ensuring healthy and well balanced meals? Should the standard be expanded to enable other qualified professionals (e.g. Red Seal Chefs, nutritionists) to review and approve menus as meeting nutritional requirements? 20. Overall, is there something that should be added to this standard to significantly enhance safety, quality and the overall dining experience? Are residents requesting and/or requiring special diets? Yes or No. Please explain. – If requested/required, what special diets are you able to accommodate? – What are the implications when you are not able to accommodate these requests/requirements? Where special diets are provided, what are some of the approaches used to train kitchen/food services staff? Consider the training content to be provided, the most appropriate trainers, type of training, etc. Where texture modified diets are accommodated, should there be a requirement for there to be a meal choice? – Should a texture modified diet be shown on the menu or otherwise communicated? Yes or no. Please explain. 20

Are the mechanisms listed in the standard appropriate for supporting resident safety and security on an around-the- clock basis? – Are there additions that could improve residents’ feelings of safety and security? Yes or no. Please explain. Given that safety and security must be in place for residents around-the-clock, in what ways are residents able to access the building after hours when the building is locked? 21

22. Is the standard sufficient as written for an applicant, resident and their representatives? Do applicants, residents and their representatives ask for information that is not listed in this standard? Yes or no. As these standards apply more broadly than other legislated requirements (including Continuing Care Health Service Standards, infection prevention and control, food safety), are there any training needs that should be added for accommodation services staff (including housekeeping, maintenance, reception, laundry, food services, etc.)? What would be the implications be if the standards were expanded to specify minimum training requirements for accommodation staff? – If this was done, in what areas should the training focus and when should the training be done? 23

24. What are the implications of enhancing the Accommodation Standards to match the Continuing Care Health Service Standards? Is there something else besides a CRC that should be in place to ensure the safety and security of residents? 24

25. Is there anything else in the Regulation and Standards that impedes the delivery of quality accommodation/accommodation services? Is there any addition that you think would be important to make a substantive improvement to the quality of resident accommodation/accommodation services? 25
