2 Stars and our Sun THE DEFINITION OF A STAR IS A HUGE BALL OF GAS HELD TOGETHER BY GRAVITY. STARS ARE CLASSIFIED BY THE ELEMENTS THEY ABSORB. CONSTELLATIONS ARE A GROUP OF STARS THAT SEEM TO FORM PICTURES. LIKE LEO THE LION OR THE LITTLE DIPPER.

3 Inner planet INNER PLANET EARTH IS AN INNER PLANET. IT IS THE 3 RD PLANET FROM THE SUN. EARTH IS 92.96 MILLION MILES FROM THE SUN. EARTH’S DIAMETER IS 7,926 MILES. EARTH’S TEMPERATURE AVERAGES AT ABOUT 61 DEGREES F. EARTH IS A ROCKY PLANET. THE COMPOSITION OF THE EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE IS MADE UP OF 78% NITROGEN, 21% OXYGEN, AND 1% OTHER GASES. 2 FUN FACTS ABOUT EARTH IS ONE, EARTH IS THE ONLY PLANET THAT HAS 21% OXYGEN. 2 EARTH IS SPLIT INTO PLATES CALLED TECTONIC PLATES THAT FLOAT ON A ROCKY MANTLE.

4 Outer planet JUPITER IS AN OUTER PLANET. IT IS THE 5 TH PLANET FROM THE SUN. IN MILES IT IS 483.8 MILLION MILES FROM THE SUN. THE DIAMETER OF JUPITER IS 86,881.4 MILES. THE TEMPERATURE IN JUPITER’S CLOUDS IS – 234 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. NEAR THE SURFACE THOUGH IT IS 43,000 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THE ATMOSPHERE IS MOSTLY MADE UP OF HYDROGEN, 90% IS BASIC GAS AND THEN ALMOST 10% HELIUM. JUPITER IS A GAS PLANET. 2 FUN FACTS ABOUT JUPITER ARE ONE, JUPITER IS FORTH BRIGHTEST OBJECT IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM. 2 JUPITER HAS THE SHORTEST DAYS OF ALL THE PLANETS.

EARTH’S TEMPERATURE IS ALSO A LOT DIFFERENT THAN JUPITER’S. EARTH’S IS ABOUT 61 DEGREES. JUPITER IS ABOUT 43,000 DEGREES. 6 Comets and Meteors THE DEFINITION OF A COMET IS A SMALL SOLAR SYSTEM BODY THAT ORBITS THE SUN. THE DEFINITION OF A METEOR IS A SMALL BODY OF MATTER FROM OUTER SPACE THAT ENTERS EARTHS ATMOSPHERE. COMET METEOR

7 The Differences between Meteors, Meteorites, and Meteoroids THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN METEORS, METEORITES, METEOROIDS ARE THAT AN METEOROID IS A SMALL PARTICLE OF A COMET ORBITING THE SUN. IT THEN TURNS INTO A METEOR WHICH BURNS UP IN THE EARTHS ATMOSPHERE. THAT THEN TURNS INTO A METEORITE THAT SURVIVES THE PASSAGE THROUGH THE EARTHS ATMOSPHERE AND HITS THE EARTHS SURFACE. SO THEY ARE TECHNICALLY THE SAME THING BUT THROUGH THE DIFFERENT TRANSITIONS DIFFERENT THINGS HAPPEN TO THEM.

8 Halley's Comet HALEY’S COMET IS ONE OF THE GREATEST COMET TO BE SEEN. HALLEY’S COMET WAS NAMED AFTER THE ASTRONOMER EDMOND HALLEY WHO STUDIED THE COMINGS OF THE COMET. HALLEY’S COMET CAME TO EARTH IN 1531 THEN 1607, AND 1682. HE PREDICTED IT WOULD COME BACK IN 1758 BUT DID NOT LIVE TO SEE IT. THE LAST SITING OF HALLEY'S COMET WAS IN 1986 AND SHOULD COME BACK IN 2061. AS YOU CAN SEE HALLEY'S COMET COMES BACK EVERY 75 YEARS. Halley’s comet

9 Gravity GRAVITY IS THE FORCE THAT ATTRACTS A BODY TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, OR TOWARD ANY OTHER PHYSICAL BODY HAVING MASS. SO HUMANS HAVING MASS CAN NOT FLY OR LEVITATE BECAUSE GRAVITY IS PULLING US DOWN. ALTHOUGH ON DIFFERENT PLANETS AND THE MOON, THE PULL OF GRAVITY IS LESS. YOUR MASS DOESN'T CHANGE BUT YOUR WEIGHT WOULD BE LESS.

10 Technology Made By NASA ONE EXAMPLE OF TECHNOLOGY THAT WAS INVENTED FOR SPACE BUT IS USED ON EARTH IS THE SMOKE DETECTOR. SMOKE DETECTORS WERE MADE BY NASA TO ALERT ASTRONAUTS IF THERE'S A FIRE IN THE SPACE CRAFT. IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT EASIER TO GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE IF THERE’S A FIRE, BECAUSE OF YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR. IN SPACE THOUGH, YOU CANT EXIT YOUR SPACE CRAFT IF THERE’S A FIRE. THEY HAVE TO DETECT A FIRE AT AN EARLY STAGE SO THEY CAN DESTROY IT. ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF TECHNOLOGY THAT WAS INVENTED FOR SPACE BUT IS USED ON EARTH IS, RED LIGHT-EMITTING DIODES THAT ARE GROWING PLANTS IN SPACE BUT ARE ALSO HEALING HUMANS ON EARTH..

11 How the NASA Technology Helps A SMOKE DETECTOR SAVES HUMANS LIVES! HOW? WELL IF YOU HAVE A FIRE THE SMOKE FROM THE FIRE WILL FLOAT UP AND THE SMOKE DETECTOR WILL DETECT IT AND SOUND AN ALARM. WHEN YOU HERE IT YOU KNOW THERE’S A FIRE AND SO YOU CAN GET OUT OR FOR ASTRONAUTS, DESTROY IT BEFORE IT GETS BIGGER. RED LIGHT EMITTING DIODES HELP PEOPLE. HOW? THE LED TECHNOLOGY, USED IN NASA SPACE SPGE, (SHUTTLE PLANT GROWTH EXPERIMENTS), HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICAL DEVICES SUCH AS WARP 10 WHICH WAS AN AWARD- WINNING, HAND-HELD, HIGH- INTENSITY, LED UNIT DEVELOPED BY QUANTUM DEVICES INC.
