1 What’s Happening in Class ! Language Arts ( Fuller)- Our new unit in a nutshell? Summarizing! In vocabulary we are trying our second week of Greek/Latin roots with struct and frequently misspelled words that start with the letter f. Students have new word work requirements to write spelling words twice, make an illustrated 10 square colored ‘dictionary,’ and write five vocabulary context sentences with two vocabulary words per sentence (must show that they know the meaning of words). We are doing a school based mini-research project in groups that will result in a PSA video (Public Service Announcement). Students are off to a great start and I will put the videos on my Fusion page. Last year’s videos are posted under the blog section if you want to check them out! Math (Young) – This unit has been very vocabulary intensive, and students are working hard to remember words like isosceles, scalene, equilateral, acute, obtuse, chord, and circumference. We will be adding more vocabulary to the mix next week with words like rhombus, parallelogram, and quadrilateral. Many of these words are review from last year, but there have been some new ones as well. Our focus next week will be defining different types of quadrilaterals and looking at their similarities and differences as well as seeing what happens when we subdivide and combine them. Our test will be on Friday, and a study guide came home this week with IXL lesson numbers and extra practice problems. Please let me know if you would prefer an actual answer key instead of the QR code answers. Science (Rodgers) The students completed a lab today to see if salinity affects how currents move. Next week, we will be doing some research on waves, tides and currents. I will give the students a study guide next week for our test on December 18th. The students are encouraged to be reading something related to oecans or ocean animals at home to help with their understanding of this fascinating unit. Social Studies (Rodgers) -Our Midwest test is on Thursday. The students seemed to enjoy Sarah, Plain and Tall. We will be learning some more about the Midwest states next week. Quick Reminders IXL is up and running for Reading! Students will start coming home with homework on this site, but please have them log-in and use it for practice anytime! Please check your student’s agenda daily. A signature from you will communicate that you were able to see assignments and upcoming quizzes/tests. (Not required!)
