2 Web2.0 What is it? Why is it important? Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services— such as social networking sites (my space), wikis, and collaborative tagging — which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. It’s important to know about because our students have grown up using technology and are engaging in all the aspects, gadgets, and new innovations that make up Web 2.0

11 Teens are content creators with technology: 55 % of all teens have profiles on social websites. They have more experience in blogging, uploading videos, music, and creating websites. They like to share what they have created. They love to communicate with each other via the Internet. Teens are high end users of the Internet and they are Omnivores with respect to the various types of technology available today

12 Teachers and other adults may view Web and technology as something more to do (more work) Kids are using technology all the time. They have X Boxes, Cell Phones, I Pods, Computers, 93% of all teens use technology compared to 73 % of adults But….

13 Because Teens are such prolific users of technology it only makes sense that we use technology to teach them. Technology can do much to eliminate the achievement gap and teach kids to be successful in a way that totally engages them.

14 Students must be guided to the proper methods of doing research on the web. They need to learn the skills that allows them to distinguish if the information they obtain is accurate or not.

15 As Librarians and Teachers We need to be confident in what we know to meet peoples needs in reference and in entertainment

19 Blogs Blogs allow an author to post a topic and others respond to it. They are a great tool for web presence and journaling For some students Blogs increase the motivation to write as well as an awareness to each other Google: Blogger Edublog
