PEAK OIL PROBLEM By Nick, Max

THE PROBLEM Almost all of the oil in the world that could easily be harvested has been used up, but the demand for oil only increases. “All the easy oil and gas in the world has pretty much been found. Now comes the harder work in finding and producing oil from more challenging environments and work areas.” - William J. Cummings, Exxon-Mobil company spokesman

The issue began when our technology was peaking and we could harvest oil faster and more efficiently then ever before. We mainly got oil out of the ground and the sea, but oil is a finite resource and the process in which oil is made takes many thousands of years, and we’re using and taking advantage of the source far too quickly. WHEN IT STARTED

WHAT IS BEING DONE TO FIX IT Scientists have discovered that you can take oil out of certain sand, most of this sand is placed in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc.) These countries are now selling the oil to other countries (America, England, Australia, etc.) We could never have taken the oil out of that sand in years before because we didn’t have the technology. ^ | Businessmen from Saudi Arabia

IDEAS FROM THE GROUP TO HELP THE PROBLEM -Try to slow down our usage of oil -Find a fuel or power source that can replace oil -Make more oil trades in and out of the Middle East -Find a way to artificially speed up the process in which oil is created -Improve technology to ensure of less oil spills

REPLACEMENT IDEAS FOR OIL - Coal - Solar -Wind - Electricity
