Computer based test required for Medical School admissions in the U.S. (and Canada) Scores range from 3 – 45 Average score among all test takers: 24 Average score for those accepted: 30 Average Princeton Review student score: 30 - On average, PR students score 10 points higher MCAT is offered 28 times each year –Register through AAMC (register early! www.aamc.org) Preparation is KEY!

4 MCAT Basics 51/2 hrs test time 4 sections –Physical Sciences (Physics + Gen Chem): 52 q, 70 min –Verbal: 40 q, 60 min –2 Essays (30 min/each) –Biology (Biology + organic chem): 52 q, 70 min Biology Section –Mostly passages with 4-7 questions each –A few free standing questions MCAT asks you to APPLY basic knowledge!

5 Computer Based Test Differences between AAMC practice and the real CBT Practice: highlighting persists, strikeouts do not, search and notes features Real: highlighting does not persist, strikeouts do, No Search or notes features You can choose practice vs. operational features on the AAMC practice tests.

9 5 Tips for Success on the Biology Section of the MCAT Passages Don’t expect to see the answer right away (as far as figures/graphs go) Use ALL of the biology that you know- don’t get stuck in the passage topic Don’t worry about what you don’t know- DON’T OVER THINK! Read with a PURPOSE! Active reading is a MUST.
