2. Key Long-Term Business Needs There will continue to be development of new devices operating on 3GPP2 systems for many years Even for operators which have no plans to upgrade their networks, may still have maintenance releases Regulatory changes may require updates 2

General Approach Continue to maintain 3GPP2 as an entity until approximately sunset of networks –Maintains availability of specifications –Maintains core competence of people who understand the specifications –Maintains ability to deal with issues and any new Work Items –Maintains ability to update specifications –Maintain relationship and respond to requests from external organizations, such as the ITU, 3GPP, and MPEG Substantially reduce costs to run 3GPP2 leading to a “low level of expenditures” going forward 3

Low Level of Expenditures Beyond date “x”, any face-to-face meetings will be sponsored by member company Beyond date “y”, PMT function ends –Work level low enough that each TSG handles own workplan (expect mostly updating of existing documents) Maintain web site and document repository Beyond date “x”, minimal secretariat support –Secretariat does manage notifications of V&V, approvals by SC, posts documents, and keeps websites and document repository running –No travel to meetings –No management of contributions –Meeting summaries handled by chair (or volunteer secretary) 4
