2 INSERT TAB The Insert tab contains a group of features that you can use to add graphics to your document in Word 2013. Word offers a number of tools to help you capture your readers’ attention with illustrations that include Pictures, ClipArt, Shapes, SmartArt, Charts, and Screenshots.

3 INSERTING PICTURES When you insert a picture into a document, Word marks it as an embedded object by default. Which means it becomes part of the document and is no longer connected to the original image. Linked Object: An object that is connected to the source document and does not become part of the destination document. The Picture Tools tab is a contextual command tab that appears after you have added a picture to the Word document. Formatting options on the Picture Tools tab enable you to make changes to the graphic object,

4 CROPPING/SCALING PICTURES Cropping : Removing the unwanted parts out of a picture Picture Tools Format > Size Group Scaling : Adjusting the height and width of a graphic proportionally - Size Dialog Box > Lock Aspect Ratio (Maintains the proportion of a graphic) Rotating : a circular movement of an object around a center

5 PICTURE STYLES Applying a Picture Style to a picture allows you to select from various designs to give the picture an added appeal. In the Picture Styles group you can also modify the picture: Picture Border Picture Effects Picture Layout

6 CAPTION Text (few descriptive words) that usually appears beneath the picture or graphic providing the reader with a description of the picture Picture Layout automatically converts the picture to a SmartArt graphic and the picture is resized to accommodate a circled caption. To add captions: Picture Tools Format > Picture Styles > Picture Layout Learning Young

7 ADJUSTING PICTURES Remove Background: Allows you to remove the background or unwanted portions of most pictures Corrections: Improve Brightness, Contrast, and Sharpness pictures in Corrections Color : Change color of picture to improve quality Artistic Effects: Allows you to apply cool effects (filters) to pictures causing it to look more like a painting.

8 ADJUSTING PICTURES In the Adjust Group Compress Picture: Reduces the size of the picture Change Picture: Allows you to switch pictures, but the picture will be the same size as the original Reset Picture: Removes formatting of the picture back to the original

9 ARRANGING TEXT AROUND A PICTURE Position: Places the picture at an exact spot/location in the document Wrap Text: Allows text to wrap around a picture or object Inline Object: Moves along with the text that surrounds it, the Picture is located on the same line as text Floating Object: Picture can be clicked and dragged anywhere in the document allowing text to wrap around it

10 SCREENSHOTS/SCREEN CLIPPING Screenshot: Captures a picture of the entire computer screen or window of a open application Screen Clipping: takes a picture of part of the computer screen that you select

11 SHAPES Shapes are figures such as lines, rectangles, block arrows, equation shapes, flowcharts, stars, banners, and callouts. You may also insert a drawing canvas which will serve as a guide. Can format and add text in shapes

12 SHAPES When working with shapes, the Drawing Tools Format Ribbon appears Drawing Canvas: frame-like boundary that keeps multiple drawing objects together Automatically turned off The Drawing Tools make it possible for you to change the shape, add text, apply styles, fill with theme or standard colors, gradient, texture colors, and apply preset effects.

13 WORDART WordArt is a feature that creates decorative effects with text. The Drawing Tools allow you to format the WordArt by adding special effects to the text or outline, applying preset effects, and transforming the shape using one of the quick styles. Text with more vibrant colors and shapes and effects.

14 SMARTART Graphical illustrations or visual representations of information available from a list of various categories that can help communicate your message or ideas more effectively. The SmartArt Tools enable you to manipulate the SmartArt by adding shapes, bullets, and text; changing the layout and colors; and applying special effects using styles. 15 TYPES OF SMARTART List: Nonsequential or grouped blocks of information Process: Show a progression of steps in a process, timeline, task, or workflow. Cycle: Show a continuing sequence of events in a circular flow Hierarchy: Tree like organizational chart Relationship: Illustrate connections, show related concepts Matrix: Shows how parts relates to a whole Pyramid: Show proportional/foundation based relationships Picture: An idea through a series of pictures

16 CLIPART A collection of media files available for you to insert from Office.com Insert Online Pictures, includes pictures and illustrations There are several online sources that contain royalty- free photos and illustrations and are used for corporations, personal use, or in this case, classroom instruction. Can be formatted the same way a picture can be formatted- Picture Tools Format Ribbon Can be compressed, which makes it easier for file sharing because the file size is reduced.

17 CHARTS Makes data easier to read; easier to see patterns and trends in data. Two ways to insert Use Word to create the Chart (Insert Ribbon) Insert a Chart from Excel Chart Tools Ribbon Design tab Format tab

18 TEXT BOX Preformatted placeholder for text Brings focus to the content it contains and is great for showcasing important text Can be formatted in the Drawing Tools Format Ribbon Can be saved into the Text Box Gallery (the document must be saved before you do this)
