31 THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. Lesson 7 Summary—1 SmartArt graphics are used to represent information in a visual manner. –The SmartArt Tools Design tab has command buttons to insert shapes and modify the predefined diagram layouts. –List diagrams provide an alternative to listing information in a bulleted list. –Process diagrams show a sequence of events or the progression of workflow. –Cycle diagrams communicate a continuous or ongoing process.

32 THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. Lesson 7 Summary—2 –Hierarchy diagrams are used to describe a hierarchical structure. –Pyramid diagrams show interconnected or proportional relationships. –Relationship diagrams contain interconnected shapes that reflect relationships in some way. –Matrix diagrams display two axes in related quadrants that emphasize the whole or the individual parts. –An organization chart is a type of hierarchy chart in a tree structure, branching out to multiple divisions in each lower level.

33 THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. Lesson 7 Summary—3 When a chart shape is promoted, it moves up a level. When a chart shape is demoted, it moves down a level. A SmartArt Text pane provides a quick way to enter the text that labels diagram shapes. Text entered in SmartArt shapes automatically resizes to fit the shape. An existing bulleted list can be converted to a SmartArt graphic. SmartArt Styles consist of predefined effects that work well together for diagrams.

34 THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. THE PROFESSIONAL APPROACH SERIES © 2008 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. Lesson 7 Summary—4 Quick Styles provide choices for color and effect changes such as outlines, beveling, and shadows that can be applied to any selected shape. –An illusion of depth is created with 3-D style options. Shapes can be repositioned within the SmartArt area. If color changes made to a SmartArt graphic are unacceptable, the colors can be reset to their original colors.
