2 Welcome and Overview Purpose: Ensure everyone has appropriate training to successfully recruit before, during, and after formal recruitment – Newer brothers: learn and build your skills – Older brothers: teach and share your skills Expectations for training: – Attend – Cell phones/computers away – Participate

3 Delta Upsilon: Building Better Men Since 1834 Why Do We Recruit? What are all of the possible reasons it is important for us to recruit new members? What happens if we don’t recruit?  Continue DU at Iowa  Financial (maintain/lower costs)  More brothers to do things  More fun/brotherhood  Socials with larger sororities  More brothers to divide responsibilities  Promotion of Friendship  Fill the house  Grow DU and help to promote our Four Founding Principles

5 Delta Upsilon: Building Better Men Since 1834 Who Do We Want To Recruit? Think about the ideal member. What are characteristics of guys we want to join DU? Think about challenges we’ve had in the past with brothers. What are characteristics of guys we do not want in DU? What are the best ways to learn if a PNM has any of these characteristics (good or bad)?

6 Delta Upsilon: Building Better Men Since 1834 Demonstrating Confidence and Competence What are some ways that you can demonstrate (through actions and behaviors) that Delta Upsilon is a strong Fraternity (coordinated, organized), and filled with good guys (diverse gentlemen who form a brotherhood)?

How would you respond to:  “You guys get a lot of girls?”  “So are the other Frats just a bunch of jerks?”  “So are you guys mostly Republicans or Democrats?”

16 Delta Upsilon: Building Better Men Since 1834 What Do Potential Members Want To Know? What are some things a PNM may ask or want to know? How does it look if a brother can’t answer a simple factual question about the Fraternity? How does it look if two different brothers give different answers to a simple factual question about the Fraternity?
