Who Was Important? This time period was between the years that the last Russian Tsar of the Rurik Dynasty (Feodor Ivanovich) and the beginning of the Romanov Dynasty. False Dmitri: a man claiming to be the rightful heir to the throne. His reign only lasted a year before being killed.

What was the Time of Troubles? In 1601-1603, a famine was suffered by Russia that killed one third of the population. Russia was occupied by the Polish-Lithunania Commonwealth and thus suffered from civil uprising.

Where? Russia: the famine affected all parts of Russia and Russia had a hard time controlling the issues because it recently tripled its size to 2 million square miles.

When? The Time of Troubles in Russia took place at the beginning of the seventeenth century.

Why did this happen? After obtaining lots of land and having few people to populate it, Russian’s government had a hard time controlling it. The time did not have a set government, as Russia was between dynasties and there were false tsars claiming to be heirs. Turmoil and civil war.
