1 Connecting a SmartBoard: A How-to Guide Created by Julie Santaniello Staff Developer Title IIB Math & Science Partnership Grant

2 Step 1: Assemble your Equipment Smartboard Projector Computer Connecting Wires Power Cords

3 Step 2: Place Computer and Projector Near a Power Source Connect the computer and projector to the power source with their power adaptors. You may need an extension cord for optimal placement of the board in the classroom.

4 Step 3: Connect the Computer to the Projector The cable that connects the projector to the laptop is color coded with blue serial port plugs that match the color of the ports to which they will connect.

5 Color-Coded Connections Look for the blue ports on the back of the projector and laptop. You may use either the upper or lower port on the projector.

6 Computer-Projector Hook-up

7 Step 4: Connect the Computer to the SmartBoard 1. Use this cable

8 Computer-SmartBoard Hook-up 2. Connect to the bottom right port on the SmartBoard 3. Connect to the USB port on the back or side of the laptop.

9 Step 5: Turn on Computer & Projector

10 Step 6: Send Image to Projector By pressing the function and F8 buttons SIMULTANEOUSLY you will be able to move between the three image combinations: 1.Computer Screen only 2.Projector only 3.BOTH Computer Screen & Projector

11 Step 7: Start SmartBoard Application Look for this icon on your desktop or on the bottom right application bar of your screen

12 Hint: Don’t Forget to Orient the Board! Press the two buttons in front of the eraser on your SmartBoard to begin the process. Then follow the red targets to finish the orienting.

13 You’re ready to go!
