3 Curriculum Outcome  Grade 9 History  OACS #7:  Analyze the causes and effects of World War I with emphasis on: Militarism, Imperialism, Nationalism, and Secret Alliances The global scope, outcomes and human costs of the war

4 Objective  Students should be able to define the above terms and explain the global scope, outcomes, and human costs of WWI.

5 Evaluation  Pop Quiz on vocabulary  Announced Quiz over all objectives  Group Project on objectives

6 Lesson Procedures  Introduction:  Short video clip overviewing WWI http://www.battlesofwar.com/media/world-war-1- footage.php http://www.battlesofwar.com/media/world-war-1- footage.php  Connection to prior experiences  Bring in articles/pictures from WWI and relate to relatives/friends who are serving/have served in the past (if NA, imagine being drafted into the service at age 18)

7 Lesson Procedures  Activities  Group project with presentations on global effects of WWI by exploring WWI by other countries using outside sources (library or internet-websites will be provided) Students will use www.prezi.com to present their projects to the classwww.prezi.com  Pop quiz matching terms graded on completion to assess knowledge  Announced quiz over all objectives graded on correction

8 Lesson Procedures  Questions  Lower order How many soldiers were killed during the war? What were the alliances and what countries were they composed of? What was the treaty called?  Higher order Explain the outcomes of WWI for the countries involved in the war. Explain what was outlined in the treaty and how the countries involved were affected.

9 Lesson Procedures  Closure  Present projects to class  Documentary/internet clips about WWI

10 Commitment to Diversity  Visual  Documentaries, written notes  Kinesthetic  Group projects and presentations  Auditory  vocabulary  Special Needs  Small groups, individual attention, close attention to IEP  Teacher will “randomly” choose groups, and discuss all or none cultural, religious, and/or SES backgrounds

11 Commitment to Technology  Students can explore the material through different sources such as internet, radio, newspaper, etc.  Go to the school library with back-up teacher articles pulled before lesson
