2. The War at Home When the U.S. declared war, the government moved fast to put the country on a war economy. The War Industries Board and the National War Labor Board made sure the US was producing everything they needed to fight.

3. This was very evident in the way women’s fashion changed. Women stopped wearing corsets, tall leather shoes, and hemlines rose.

4. President Wilson also set up the Food Administration to help produce and conserve food. Herbert Hoover was in charge of this group and they urged people to plant “Victory Gardens”.

5. To help finance the war the government sold Liberty Loans, war bonds, and raised the income tax.
