BEARS

 A small primitive bear called Ursus abstrusus is the oldest known North American fossil member of the genus Ursus, dated to 4.95 myafossil

BEARS LOCSTION  which is the subspecies that exists in Florida, also resides in Alabama and southern Georgia.

HABITAT  Brown bears can be found in many habitats, from the fringes of deserts to high mountain forests and ice fields. In Europe, the brown bear is mostly found in mountain woodlands, in Siberia it occurs primarily in forests while in North America they prefer tundra, alpine meadows and coastlines. The species' main requirements are areas with dense cover in which they can shelter by day.

FOOD  grizzlies spend most of their waking hours searching for food. Forbs, roots, tubers, grasses, berries and other vegetation, and insects comprise most of the bear’s die

COMMON PLACES  The North American Black Bear is the most common bear in North America ranging from the State of Florida north, into Canada and north to Alaska. The black and brown colour phase of the black bear is common. The white colour phase is more rare occuring in north western British Columbia, Canada.

HIBERNATE  Scientists have long known that to survive this lengthy fast, the bears drop their metabolism, the chemical process that converts food to energy.

 There is some discussion as to whether the most famous hibernator, the bear, actually hibernates. While a bear is denning, its heart rate, breathing rate, and metabolic rate do slow down. In addition, a bear’s body temperature is reduced

PRAY  World's Deadliest: Grizzly Bear Attacks Prey. Grizzlybears can and will eat just about anything. And that means running down whatever they can catch, from elk calves and salmon to baby bison.

OMNIVORES  bears are omnivores that will eat anything they can find in the rain forest, from fruit and honey to insects, snails, eggs, lizards, and rodents. They are very good at skimming through the jungle to find any kinds of food they can get their paws on. They particularly love honey and bee larvae
