8 What is the Alliance? Strategic Alliance on Migrant Destitution Two year ambitious project started in summer 2015 Coalition of national agencies from homeless and refugee/migrant sector Focused on practical solutions to migrant destitution among single adults (no children or families) Response to rising numbers of destitute non-EEA migrants Collaboration, cross-fertilization and partnership work Enabling access to services offering return to country of origin for those that chose it www.homeless.org.ukLet’s end homelessness together

9 Key aims: Strategic Alliance on Migrant Destitution 1.Increase the supply, access and better management of accommodation for people with NRPF 2.Support front line agencies and local partnerships through capacity building, coordination and cross-fertilisation 3.Support the development of integrated pathways out of destitution for individuals 4.Gather, share and use evidence of what works to inform service providers, funders, policy and decision makers www.homeless.org.ukLet’s end homelessness together

11 Work so far: Strategic Alliance on Migrant Destitution Building local networks and supporting partnership working – development of regional task and finish groups linking Local Authorities and Vol Sector. Sharing examples of good practice from across the country and raising the profile of NRPF options Development of training for frontline workers to improve understanding of the key needs of destitute migrants and refused asylum seekers. 12 What conclusions did we draw? Strategic Alliance on Migrant Destitution No one-size-fits all NACCOM members: commitment, innovation and passion Commissioners interested, but demanding clearer data and demonstration of “impact” No service should have “no offer” Difference in timescales of the two sectors huge – but doesn’t mean assessment can’t take place Refugee/migrant and homeless sector can be complimentary in approach www.homeless.org.ukLet’s end homelessness together

13 Case Study: Street Legal Strategic Alliance on Migrant Destitution Street Legal is a pan-London partnership between Praxis Community Projects,Praxis Community Projects Refugee Action and St. Mungo’s.Refugee ActionSt. Mungo’s Cross-sector collaboration working to reduce the number of non-EU clients with immigration issues and/or NRPF who are rough sleeping OISC regulated immigration advisors, working in partnership with frontline homelessness workers Ensuring that everyone found rough sleeping who needs it, gets an assessment of their immigration status Accommodation provided by: St Mungo’s, NASS, London Hosting, DePaul winter night shelters, Local Authority etc www.homeless.org.ukLet’s end homelessness together
