Solar Panel Covers Each of 6 solar panels (17”x8.25”) will have a Cover (18”x9.25”) Covers will protect cells from moderate impact (planned AL thickness.062”) ¼” gap between Panel and Cover will not be “sealed” around the perimeter of Cover Planned 3 inhibits for Covers –Captured fasteners ● –Velcro patches ■ –Velcro straps ▐ The captured fasteners may be either –Screws (TBD capture mechanism) –Panel screws (catalog items: captured; slotted head and/or finger knurls) –Quick release pins (tethered) Covers will have two glove-friendly fabric loop handles (one each end) Covers will have additional velcro to allow stacking for storage after satellite release All 6 Covers will be tethered together or connected by fabric “hinges” KF4KSS Aug 12, 2009 Fabric straps Fabric handle Fabric handle Fabric handle Fabric handle Fabric handle Fabric handle

3. Control Box Control Box will be recessed but exposed. Top Plate is ¼” thick. Can Control Box be recessed this much or does it need to be closer to flush? I assume potential inhibits of switches is Lou’s responsibility. Obviously I mention it here because I’m afraid it will come back to me. –Lou’s concept was a wedge to prevent switches from “ON” position. –Other options may include Cover over entire Control Box KF4KSS Aug 12, 2009

4. Misc Details Glove-friendly Handles on four edges –Similar to design from SuitSat1 –Possibly longer so it’s easier to switch hands –Approximately 23” apart All corners rounded to R 1/16” Similar to SuitSat1, whip antennas will be layered inside Kapton tape and stowed I assume no prohibitions against socket head cap screws on structure exterior –Nuts and exposed threads will be interior –Would like to avoid countersunk screws everywhere KF4KSS July 31, 2009
