2 A History of Birthdays It is thought the large-scale celebration of birthdays in Europe began with the non-Christian cult of Mithras, which originated in Persia, and was spread by soldiers throughout the Roman Empire. Originally, birthdays were only celebrated for nobles, such as kings and queens. The first children’s birthdays were celebrated in Germany and were called Kinderfeste. Birthdays in the United States have become very big consumer holidays with very expensive parties held for kids and teens. A popular TV show featuring 16 th Birthday parties put on by rich kids

3 Birthday Song! The song we sing to wish friends a happy birthday: Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear (insert name)! Happy birthday to you!

4 Special Birthdays ~ Golden Birthday! When your age equals the day you were born. For example: Alli’s birthday is the 29th. Her golden birthday will occur when she turns 29. Jenna’s birthday is on the 11th. Her golden birthday took place when she turned 11! ~13! When you are officially a teenager! ~16! You can get your license! Drive, baby drive! ~18! Legal adult. ~21! Legal drinking age in the U.S.!

5 Birthday Parties… Many children and teenagers have birthday parties where they invite all their friends over to their house or rent out a party space for a huge bash. 15 th Birthday for one of Alli’s good friends!

6 And the Best Part of Birthday Parties…. CAKE!! Alli’s 15 th Birthday cake
