2 Lewis and Clark, the troublemakers?

3 -Identify the Spanish reaction to the Lewis and Clark Expedition by analyzing primary source and secondary source documents. -Explain why America and Lewis and Clark were seen as possible “troublemakers.” -Use documents to locate specific points on a map relating to the various expeditions.

9 www.mediastorehouse.com -Agent 13 (General James Wilkinson, U.S. Army) warned the Spanish government about the intentions of the Lewis and Clark Expedition -The Spanish government heeded his warning -Four different squads consisting Spanish soldiers, American Indians, and American spies were assembled to seek out and arrest the Corps of Discovery (Lewis and Clark).

Using both sets of resources, answer the following questions: 1) Where did Lewis and Clark’s journey take them? 2) Why do you think the Spanish failed to capture Lewis and Clark? 3) If you were the Spanish, what would you have done differently? 4) Why is it important to study the Spanish reaction to the expedition?
