4. 4 Background & Justification Background & Justification Number of occupational accidents: According to reports from 63/63 provinces and cities directly under the Central Government, 5125 occupational accidents occurred in Vietnam in 2010 involving 5307 people, including: Number of fatal occupational accidents: 554 cases The death toll: 601 people The death toll: 601 people Number of serious occupational accidents with two or more victims: 105 cases Number of serious occupational accidents with two or more victims: 105 cases Number of injured: 1260 people Number of female victims: 944 people

Frequency of fatal occupational accidents (per 46 local statistics on workforce statistics and death toll in the province) in 2010 was 7.97 per 100,000 workers. Bac Lieu is the province which does not have fatal occupational accidents in 2010 (Bac Lieu has gained this for 02 consecutive years). Fields of serious occupational accidents According to statistics of occupational accidents, some of the highest risk of accidents in 2010 are: mining, construction, unskilled labor and metal workers, mechanical assembly.
