3 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE The Challenge: “Games, Camera, Action!” With the 2016 Olympics around the corner, the BBC is looking for a Youth TV Production Company to develop a special show to accompany the Olympics and you have been invited to pitch.

4 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE As a Team you must… – Assign roles – Decide what you want to achieve – Develop an overview of your proposed show The Brief: The BBC needs a concept for 6 episodes: one per week for the build up and the duration of the Olympics (19 days) and the Paralympic Games (11 days). Days, dates and times are down to your team!

5 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Over the next five weeks we are going to explore: –The Olympics games, past and present –What you are passionate about –How your ideas can inspire your generation –What goes into creating and producing a production company and pre-production –How to put together a professional pitch

6 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE What do you have to do? ENJOY! BE PRESENT IN CLASS ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES TRY YOUR BEST WORK AS A TEAM

7 What is Expected of you? You will be guided through this journey with weekly sessions. These will include set tasks, as well as free research time. What you get out of this experience will be determined by what YOU put in. On Week 6 you will present the following: 1.A five minute video of your team’s pitch to win the TV production contract 2.A ten minute, live, group presentation on how you have worked as a team 3.Evidence of your work - either a hard copy folder of all research and ideas printed and professionally presented, OR a ppt presentation of the above on a USB stick

8 Overview Week 1- Get to grips with everything ‘Olympics’ Week 2- Assign roles, choose genre, decide on your TV show Week 3- Reaching your target market, choosing aims, TV show development Week 4- Outcomes of your show, positive impact Week 5- Filming and fine tuning your pitch Week 6- Final Presentations

13 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Team Discussion? What does the Olympics mean to you? Do you watch? Why? Is there a need for the Olympics? Is it only for ‘sporty’ people? What are the positives and negatives?

14 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE History The Olympic rings represent the five major continents of Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania and the Americas The image symbolises the unification of the world through sport

15 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Olympic Sports As a team, write down as many Olympic Sports as you can in just 3 minutes.

16 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Rio 2016 –First Olympics to be held in South America –What else do you know about Rio, and Brazil as a country?

17 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Research time… –Who are the 2016 mascots and what do they represent? –What are the two new additions to the sporting line-up this year? –What year was ‘tug of war’ last included? –What is the Olympic motto? –What is the aim of the Olympic movement? Make sure you delegate! –Extra points to the team who can discover the most unusual fact about Rio 2016

19 RESPONSIBILITY Olympics and Health & Well Being What does ‘health & well being’ mean to you? GAMES, CAMERA, ACTION! “Health is the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity.” W.H.O.

20 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Research time… Research an athlete competing in Rio 2016. Create a profile for them including: –Nationality, age, sport, achievements & aspirations, background, what preparation they have been/are doing, who their main competitors are –Each team member should create a separate profile ie. 4 team members = 4 athlete profiles

21 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Before you start on you TV production ideas: –Choose an ambassador for your production company & explain your choice –What characteristics/image/reputation should they have?

22 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE Remember… –Keep records of all notes and teamwork –Research outside of class time –Always bring something to the table “I believe we all have a journey.
