11 Joyce Carol Oates Born June 16, 1939

12 Joyce Carol Oates (b. 1938) American writer, poet, and essayist.
Professor at Princeton University currently (started in 1978). Retiring in 2014 As the author of more than 50 novels and numerous non-fiction works, is famous for being exceptionally prolific. Joyce Carol Oates talks about her characters.

Essay Writing Example Introduction: In the story, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates, a naïve girl, Connie, meets a deceptive, older man, Arnold Friend. Connie is persuaded by Arnold Friend’s charm and good looks, which causes her to be deceived and fall into his trap. Connie pretends to be a more sophisticated and mature teenager by socializing with older teens and acting more provocative than she truly is. However, in reality Connie is naïve and gullible. Connie’s actions attract the wrong kind of attention, and she realizes that not everyone is who they appear to be.
