3 Obesity  A person has traditionally been considered to be obese if they are more than 20 percent over their ideal weight. That ideal weight must take into account the person's height, age, sex, and build.  Obesity has been more precisely defined by the National Institutes of Health as a BMI of 30 and above.

4 What Causes Obesity?  American Lifestyle  Lack of Exercise  Poor food choices  Family  Genetics

5 Consequences  Coronary heart disease  Type 2 diabetes  Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)  Hypertension (high blood pressure)  Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)  Stroke  Liver and Gallbladder disease  Sleep apnea and respiratory problems  Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)  Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)

8 In Conclusion  Obesity is becoming more and more of an issue and even though most know of the consequences, we are still progressing towards having more and more obese individuals.
