2 Story Elements 1. Setting – time and location – where the plot takes place 2. Characters – believable and well-developed 3. Plot - what happens, the storyline, the action, the events from beginning to ending. “A plot is a series of events deliberately arranged so as to reveal their dramatic, thematic, and emotional significance.” -Jane Burroway

3 Story Elements 4. Climax most intense part of the story - the conflict(s) usually solved during the climax 5. Resolution (Dénouement) the ending or conclusion – where the internal and external conflicts are resolved. “Conflict is the fundamental element of fiction, fundamental because in literature only trouble is interesting. It takes trouble to turn the great themes of life into a story.” Janet Burroway

7 Plot Twist A plot twist is a radical change in the expected direction or outcome of the plot of a novel, film, narrative. It is a common practice in narration used to keep the interest of an audience, usually surprising them with a revelation.plotnovel filmnarrative Foreshadowing events and clues can build up to a plot twist.
