1 C.C.C.P Caribbean Coaching Certification Program

2 The Course This CTC is a competency based educational and training course designed to prepare coaches for the Caribbean Coaching Certification Program The course is based on the theory of coaching and outlines the basic principles of coaching that apply in any situation

3 There are ten Modules They provide general information about coaching Activities to assist coaches to apply the information Exercises to help coaches understand the information better Suggested reading resources

4 Duration The course is approximately hours in duration Can be stretched over 2 weekends Can be done over a series of weeknights Allow adequate time for completion of all of the competency tasks

6 What is Coaching ? Coaching is … Assisting or helping an individual or a group of athletes in order to help them develop and improve.

7 Who is a Coach? A coach is someone who plays a number of roles in order to help an athlete or a group of athletes to develop and improve as people, as well as athletes. 16 This Module has two Units Unit 1- Professionalism in Coaching Unit 2- Developing a Code of conduct This Module helps you to understand your own philosophy and role as a coach How to develop better programs and better athletes How a better knowledge of the rules of your sport can help your coaching How to help your athletes to follow the rules of their sport and Fair Play.

17 The Role of the Coach This module introduces you to the concept of Fair Play. Fair Play is closely related to your own philosophy of coaching You will need to identify what is important to both you and the athletes you coach One of the most important roles you play is to help to develop athletes physically, emotionally, and technically.

18 As an athlete centered Coach You will need to be someone who: Knows much more than the sport and its rules Enjoys working with athletes Has patience and is a good communicator Is able to motivate the athlete Is able to provide appropriate discipline and direction

20 What is Fair Play? Fair Play is a principle of coaching that guides a coach’s behavior Fair Play puts the quality of the sport experience before winning Fair Play applies to everyone in the sport Fair Play allows everyone to be treated respectfully

23 Points to Remember Know and understand the rules Respect the rules and the officials who make decisions based on them Respect opponents who are needed in order to have a competition Provide all athletes in your program with equal opportunities Keep a dignified manner despite the circumstances

24 Code of Conduct In this section we examine the effect of our values and morals on our coaching code of conduct, and ultimately the way we carry out our role as a coach. Our code of conduct and our code of ethics will form the base on which we will conduct our coaching program

25 Values and Morals VALUE: a principle or a standard in which we believe. Our values drive us to be who we are MORAL: socially right or acceptable adhering to a code of behavior a standard of behavior

27 Fair Play The philosophy and ethics of Fair Play result in coaching conduct. Coaches behave in a way that reflects their values. Conduct therefore is observable. It can be seen each time a coach speaks to athletes, coaches, parents, spectators, officials, and the media.

29 Remember You are a role model and how you behave is extremely important. To be a good role model, you need to demonstrate professional behavior by setting an example by the way you speak, you dress, and the way you conduct yourself. You also need to be enthusiastic about your sport and have the necessary coaching skills. You must also be fair and open minded.
