6  Brainstorm ideas – think of everything we can do to find work.  Go through these items in more detail. Job search skills and the hidden job market

7  Check job vacancy websites  Check daily and local newspapers  Cold calling  Yellow Pages to identify potential employers  Keep a jobs database  Register with employment/recruitment agencies  Volunteer Things you can be doing to find work

8  Research & register with company websites  Organise informational interviews  Attend social and professional events  Register as a job seeker with Work and Income  Build your social and professional networks  Research CareersNZ & other job search information websites

9  Contact/register with professional bodies  Use social media e.g. LinkedIn and Facebook  Like company Facebook pages to keep up to date with company news  Read professional and industry journals  Do further study  Attend an English class  Attend job expos

13  Use the Yellow Pages and the internet to find the employment agencies in name of your locality.  Decide which ones are most suited to your skills and experience, and the jobs you will be applying for.  Go online to research more about the agencies.  Include them in your job database.  Prepare well before contacting them.
