Overview As fuel costs keep rising, Mediterranean cruise industry will continue to expand even more. Mediterranean offers multiple destinations at small distances. This means lower speeds and lower fuel consumption. Mediterranean, we believe, is the most profitable destination.

Overview How can ports deal with increase demand? How can cruise lines organize cruises within port congestion? How can both partners work together and win? “Unified Mediterranean Berth Booking Process”

Unified Mediterranean Berth Booking Process A win – win concept! Cruise itinerary planning becomes “smarter”. Efficiency of port management becomes realistic for MedCruise Ports

Main Aims of Concept Response to port congestion Advance commitment of berth availability Booking confirmation on dates over one year in advance Unified Mediterranean Berth Booking Process

Concept Description I All call requests for year 2013 would be received by November 30th, 2011 AND confirmed by January 2 nd 2012. Call requests received after the deadline will be considered but preference is given to those received by the deadline. Call requests received after November 30th, 2011 will not be confirmed until the first week of February 2012, after preference requests received within deadlines. For call requests after the deadlines, the berth assignment procedure will be on a first-come first-served basis. Unified Mediterranean Berth Booking Process

Concept Description II In case of lack of space alternative dates would be offered no later than the first week of January 2012. Depending on port characteristics, the port has the option to confirm a “class” of berth assigned. (In town/commercial pier/passenger Terminal etc) Ports are unable to fully confirm in advance the availability piers can opt for a system that provides a priority level on a given day, in accordance with pre-established, publicly-disseminated priority policies. Relevant precautions apply in case of objection by cruise line. Unified Mediterranean Berth Booking Process

Concept Description III Upon cruise call confirmations by the port, the cruise lines have one month to cancel the cruise call or to request a change to the date of the cruise call with no penalty. Cancelation policies are supported by MedCruise with the exception of acts of God, force majeure etc. Practices of an individual cruise line making call requests simultaneously to two or more ports for the same ship for the same date are not tolerated. Unified Mediterranean Berth Booking Process

Concept Problems - Things to work on… Cruise lines (admittedly a minority) reserved berths for the same date to more than one port destinations. Some Cruise lines officially reported their inability to commit to cruise calls schedule for 2013 by the end of November 2011. In addition to the above, –through representing bodies - complained for not allocating berths –in accordance with MedCruise guidelines – by January 2012. Ports commit valuable resources through berth allocation and cancellation for reasons other than act of God or force majeure cannot be tolerated without penalties.
