Providing quality customer service is one of the most important ways a foodservice can draw repeated business. Excellent customer service accents well- prepared meals & charming atmosphere

Customers expect: Competent & friendly service Consistency in service Clean & comfortable environment Greeted with a smile Make eye contact Go beyond customer’s expectations

Never be rude or unskilled in serving customers. Treat all customers with warmth & courtesy Make the dining experience pleasant Team work is essential in excellent service.

Initial contact with customer Operates a reservation system & waiting list Hosts tracks information; wait staff, which tables are empty or occupied, weather conditions & total head count.

Leads the customers to the table & presents them the menu. Introduces the wait staff to the customers Any special needs will be their duty. None of the service from the host should be rushed Make the customer welcome

Most contact to the customer Performs FOUR tasks: 1. Represents the food service establishment 2. Sells the menu 3. Serves items skillfully 4. Receive correct payment from the customer

Must have good communication skills & interpersonal skills Set the tone of the dining experience Sales Staff of every foodservice operation Recommending menu & beverage items Know menu ingredients & preparation methods

Maintains an inviting table, keeps service station stocked & supplied Serves water & bread to customer as soon as they are seated Clears finished plates Cleans & resets the table Makes area inviting

All foodservice employees must possess the following qualities: A positive attitude A neat & clean appearance Good communication & teamwork skills Thorough job knowledge & the ability to use time wisely

Take pride in your work Be Cheerful & Friendly Show courtesy to customers & co- workers Never argue with customer Customers are always right. First impressions is so important Uniform policy Uniform properly fits Cleaned & pressed Shoes clean & polished Remove nail polish Keep jewelry to a minimum

Working directly with the public Keep hair pulled back & out of the way Keep hands clean Keep fingernails trimmed & clean Teeth clean & breath fresh Don’t wear heavy colognes & perfumes

Getting enough rest is key to good personal health Exercising regularly develops stamina Illness: Disease can spread easily. If your sick… stay home. Return to work only when completely well

Verbal Communications Speak clearly & loud enough to be heard Speak slowly, friendly, pleasant & your tone be professional at all times Leave your “slang” at the door. Don’t show your ignorance Non-Verbal Communications Body language is important tool Stand attentively. Don’t slouch or hands in pocket Don’t chew gum, drink or eat food Don’t touch your mouth, hair or face while serving customers
