PERSONALIZATION myON knows kids individually— age, interests, reading level, books they’ve read, and suggests other books they might like, at their reading level. ACCESS 24/7 unlimited, anytime, anywhere access, available on desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.

6 Edmodo is a free and secure learning network for teachers, students, and schools. It provides a safe way for us to connect, share content, access homework, participate in discussions and receive class information. Edmodo is accessible online and through any mobile device with Internet capabilities

8 Expectations  Students are expected to do their very best work at all times.  Students are expected to complete work on time and ask for help when needed.  Students are expected to show respect at all times.

9 Class Rules Love and Logic Feel free to do anything as long as it doesn’t cause a problem for someone else! We all have choices! Consequence based on the problem caused Class Dojo What is Class Dojo? Class Dojo is a classroom tool that helps teachers improve behavior in their classrooms quickly and easily. It also captures and generates data on behavior that teachers can share with parents

10 Parent Communication/ Star Binder  This is an important binder  Homework assignments and reading log  Spelling words and spelling activities list  Corrected papers will be returned in this binder.  Passwords for Edmodo, Think Through Math, MYON Reader

11 Homework  Homework is given daily Monday through Thursday  Worksheets are return the next day.  Homework needs to be neat and complete.  Homework includes 15-20 minutes reading  Check Edmodo daily starting next week

13 Birthday Celebration  Due to national health standards and a variety of food allergies, we will not have food items for our birthdays this year. Non-food items may be brought to class the last Friday of the month or on the date indicated. Food items will be sent back home.

15 Writing  Your students will have many opportunities throughout the year to practice writing for different purposes. 17 Reading  Within our reading program we will teach grade level curriculum as well as differentiated material that will expand your child’s reading skills. Areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to:  Literal comprehensionPredicting  Interpretive comprehensionPersuading  VocabularySummarizing  Fluency Topic/Main Idea/Details  Gathering InformationAnalyzing  Nonfiction Story Elements  Word Study  Genre Studies  Author’s mood and purpose

18  Words Their Way is a hands-on, developmentally- driven approach to word study that illustrates how to integrate and teach children phonics, vocabulary, and spelling skills.  Spelling Test –15 words  3 spelling groups at different levels  Spelling homework is Monday through Thursday

19 Social Studies Our Social Studies curriculum is developed around the concept of working together in a community. We will learn about:  Where/Why communities are started  Types of communities  How communities change over time  Community Structure  People in communities  Community leaders/Laws  Goods and services  Supply and Demand  Geography/Landforms/Maps/Directions
