The best from everyone, all of the time.  REVIEW LEARNING  Homework – Encourage and monitor  Planner – Help them to be organised  DISCUSS THEIR LEARNING  “What did you learn today…?”  Question them about their studies – How they learnt? / What they thought about it? / Was it interesting?  KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING & HOW WELL  Homework timetable / Milestone assessments / Exams  Stressed or Motivated?  Contact with the school – School planner / Parents’ evenings  DEVELOP THEIR LEARNING  Reading  FROG – GCSE Bitesize / School links  Online resources – www.bbc.co.uk/schools/parents

Marking, Assessment and Feedback  To grade and summatively assess students’ performance  To correct students’ mistakes  To give students the opportunity to reflect on their work  To help build the students’ understanding  To help students to improve their current WAG/Level  To motivate students to work harder/smarter  To encourage students to work more independently  For teachers to receive feedback from students about how well they appear to be understanding the content  To help parents in their discussions with pupils about their work, their progress and their areas for development

The best from everyone, all of the time.  REVIEW LEARNING  Students’ exercise books are key as a record of their learning  Key revision tool – need to be neat and organised  Used for homework – as a support or a record  DISCUSS THEIR LEARNING  Can be used as a way for students to review their work and progress with teachers and other students  Improve your discussions with your son/daughter about their learning  KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING & HOW WELL  Key tool for them and you to monitor and track their progress (marks/scores/grades/WAGs/positive comments/targets for improvement/questions/…)  DEVELOP THEIR LEARNING  A record of teachers’ marks and feedback for students to act upon  A learning dialogue between staff and student to enable students to review and ultimately improve their current level of performance

8 What should you see in exercise books? The best from everyone, all of the time. Acknowledgement marking in red, often including a ‘ checked by teacher ’ stamp This may include the pupil noting down verbal feedback (here in blue)

9 What should you see in exercise books? The best from everyone, all of the time. A piece of work (either classwork or homework), marked in some detail in red pen once per fortnight This should include a clear target for improvement (T) along with opportunities for students to respond
