Literary Terms ThemesSymbols Orlando’s poem (Real world love) Love Human experiences 11

Malleability of the Human Experiences Act II Scene vii Jaques philosophizes on the stages of human life: man passes from infancy into boyhood; becomes a lover, a soldier, and a wise civic leader; and then, year by year, becomes a bit more foolish until he is returned to his “second childishness and mere oblivion” (II.vii.164) Forest of Arden -those who enter the forest are often remarkably different when they leave Oliver’s relationship with Orlando As a young man, Rosalind demonstrates how vulnerable to change men and women truly are Phoebe’s affections change from Ganymede to Silvius within a few moments 12

Decision-making: Appeal to Unqualified Authority: this fallacy occurs when an arguer uses a citation that lacks credibility Ganymede promises Rosalind will marry Orlando Suppressed Evidence: this fallacy occurs when an argument ignores some important piece of evidence that outweighs the present evidence and entails a very different conclusion Ganymede’s marital promise to Phoebe 13

Creativity through Philosophy Free will: Celia leaves without the constraints of her father Identity: Rosalind’s identity changes when she disguises herself as Ganymede Perception: Phoebe’s perception of love is changed when she falls in love with Ganymede Causal Connection: Rosalind implements the cause and effects of each relationship according to her plan 14

Scene Applied to the Business World Employment life cycle The stages an employee goes through in a specific job or company It starts with getting hired and eventually ends with getting fired, retiring, or passing away 15

Act I Scene iii Duke Frederick approaches and demands that Rosalind leave the royal court Rosalind asks him to explain his decision to banish her Duke Frederick replies that she is her father’s daughter, and that is enough Celia announces that in banishing Rosalind, Duke Frederick has also banished Celia Celia and Rosalind decide to seek out Duke Senior in the Forest of Arden They decide to travel in disguise Celia as a common shepherdess and Rosalind as a young man 16
