1 Public Relations Committee Public Relations Committee School Board Policy 901. PUBLIC RELATIONS OBJECTIVES The purpose of the school-community relations program is to establish and maintain communication that informs the parents and public and involves them in the educational goals and programs of the district's schools. 3. Guidelines: The objectives of the district's public relations program shall be to: 5. Recognize students and their achievements. 4. Delegation of Responsibility: All administrators shall support and promote a continuous effort to maintain good school-community relations. It shall be the responsibility of all district staff to: 1. Acquaint parents and residents with the work of the schools and students.

2 Why create an Academic Wall of Fame? P-O has a proud academic tradition that has gone unnoticed by our community and the state. For example we have produced the following academically: 1. State Representatives 2. Military Academy graduates 3. Movie Producers 4. Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, etc.

3 The task of recognizing outstanding academic and public accomplishments of our past students, was taken on by the P-O High School Public Relations Committee: 1. Chairperson - Lisa Chorle 2. Don Blake 3. John Bober 4. Jeff Hartmann 5. Larry Kolbe 6. Greg Minarchick 7. Mike Minarchick 8. Tracy Vipond 9. Dena Cipriano

4 Our theme for this award is….. P-O Learners, Today's Leaders

5 Established Criteria for the Award The recipient must be a graduate of Philipsburg -Osceola Area High School established in 1959. The award will be presented each year at graduation. The recipient will be the keynote speaker delivering a brief speech to that year’s graduating class.

6 Presentation We would like to publicly present this award at the 2012 graduation ceremony in the P-O High School gym on June 8 th.

7 Presentation A plaque will be featured in our newly created Alumni Wall of Fame, which will be displayed in the front of the new wing’s hallway to the left of the gym, where we will continue to honor alumni each year.

8 The committee worked closely with Mr. Jeffrey Hartmann, Mr. Don Blake, and Mr. John Bober to plan and build the Hall of Fame Alumni Wall.

9 This Year’s Recipient Mr. Timothy Lee Bainey – Class of 1976 We, the Philipsburg-Osceola Public Relations Committee, are pleased to inform you that Tim Bainey has been chosen as the first recipient of the P-O Learners, Today’s Leaders award. This honor was developed by the Public Relations Committee at the P-O High School this year as a way to recognize a Philipsburg-Osceola graduate who utilized his or her P-O education to the fullest.

10 Why was Mr. Bainey Picked ? Since graduation from P-O in 1976, Mr. Bainey has become a successful businessman, entrepreneur, and civic leader. He is the owner of Bainey Trucking, Bainey Racing, and other business ventures. He supports our school’s programs with his dedication, attendance and monetary donations.

11 How was Mr. Bainey picked? This year members of the committee nominated people they felt were worthy. Discussion on candidates followed. Each person then cast a vote to Mr. Hartmann to tally.

12 Future Selection Process Future Selection Committee will be comprised of the following people. High School Principal President of the Alumni Committee One (1) Community Member Two (2) Teachers One (1) Retired Teacher

13 Future nominations for the award will come from the P-O Community. Referral applications will be available for nominations both on-line or by hard copy. The hard copy forms will be available at the High School and P-O Administrative Office. These forms will be developed during monthly Public Relations Committee team meetings at the High School.

14 Funding for the Academic Wall of Fame. Funding for this award is through the Public Relations Office.

15 Committee’s Future Tasks The committee would like to create a section of the Wall of Fame to include name plates for all Valedictorians. The Wall of Fame will also include a section for alumni who have achieved advanced degrees like doctors, lawyers, PhDs, etc. Finally a section of the Wall will be dedicated to alumni who have achieved significant academic honors or accolades. ie. military academy graduates, elected public officials on state or national level, etc.
