SOLAS requirements The ISM Code became mandatory in 1998 Require an Safety Management System (SMS) established by the Company Commitment from top management Top tier ”Policy Manual” ”Procedures Manual” formal and emergency operations Procedures for internal and external audits Identification of NC and follow-up on CA Management reviews Often mistaken to cover Safety only – and not environmental matters as well

International requirements One of the significant challenges for ships, their owners, charterers and managers is how to reduce the risk of non-compliance with regulatory requirements and associated enforcement actions Regulatory compliance check done by the Port State Control IMO Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), mandatory for all ships under MARPOL Annex VI Tool to assist companies in management of energy efficiency of ships

The Guide – Part I, II and III A framework that allows a company to combine common environmental requirements A practical and guided approach that gives shipping companies the relevant knowledge and tools to implement a comprehensive management system Allow companies to more easily see opportunities for improvements and cost savings and implement these on an incremental basis

Part I – The Framework Provides guidance on how to develop a maritime- specific environmental and efficiency management system, referred to as the Environmental & Efficiency Management Framework It will assist you in developing and implementing a management system in an easy way and exploit all the benefits that stem from it to create a lasting competitive advantage It offers a modular approach that users can adapt to their organisation’s needs and circumstances

Part II – The Handbook The Handbook is a compendium of technical and regulatory information, advisory resources and templates Alongside guidance on the associated environmental impacts of the above issues – and the related international and regional regulatory requirements - each chapter covers how organisations can not only meet these requirements but also the potential business case for moving beyond compliance. The Guide also provides templates, for example logbooks, forms and data collection spreadsheets, that support the content and guidance provided.

Part III – The Templates The Guide also provides templates, for example logbooks, forms and data collection spreadsheets, that support the content and guidance provided.
