4 TUTANKHAMEN (FAMOUS PERSON) King Tutankhamen was one of the youngest pharoahs of his time. He was chosen because the priests wanted control over the pharoah. He died at the young age of 18. Egypt worshiped him as the living form of Amon-Re.

6 EGYPT:UPPER, LOWER, and UNIFIED (FAMOUS PLACE) Egypt was first upper and lower Egypt. According to legend, it was united as one civilization by King Menes. The “Lower” Egypt was actually north of “Upper” Egypt; the difference was in the elevation of land. The Nile River runs through Egypt, its delta is in the “Lower” region.

8 ROSETTA STONE (FAMOUS THING) The Rosetta Stone was found near the village of Rosetta. The Rosetta Stone contained three sets of writing. Archaeologists were able to translate the Egyptian hieroglyphics on the stone by using the Greek writing as a guide.

10 ‘TOP’ 100 FACTS The land of Nubia was an ancient civilization that had many natural resources that the people of Egypt wanted so they took over the Nubian lands through ‘annexation’—or taking over. Cleopatra was a woman pharaoh who took over Egypt. She tried to take over Rome— and nearly succeeded. Papyrus is a type of plant from which paper is made.

11 The Egyptians called the Nile River the ‘giver and taker of life’. A sphinx is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a person, a hawk, or a ram. Mastabas were early Egyptian tombs constructed of mud brick, they were flat-topped and boxlike in appearance. TOP 100 FACTS

12 The Great Sphinx in Giza, Egypt (4500 years old), lies near the pyramid of King Khafre--- the face of the sphinx is thought to be the face of King Khafre. Hatshepsut was a woman ruler who took the title of ‘pharaoh’ of Egypt in 1503 BC and ruled with shrewdness and skill until her death.
