11 The following is a real world crime incident that occurred in Pierce County in August 2010. In-car technology led the deputies to be able to quickly identify a dangerous subject. Suspects in this incident are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

12  AT 1933 HOURS AN ARMED ROBBERY OCCURRED TO A CITIZEN  UNITS WERE DISPATCHED TO THE CRIME  THREE SUSPECTS IN A VEHICLE ROBBED THE CITZEN, ONE DISPLAYED A HANDGUN AND STOLE A CELL PHONE  THE VICTIM WAS ABLE GIVE A GOOD LICENSE PLATE OF THE SUSPECT VEHICLE

13 REAL TIME DISPLAY OF THE INCIDENT IN CAD UNITS IN THE FIELD CAN SEE WHAT IS EXACTLY BEING PUT INTO THE CAD BY COMM OFFICERS/ DISPATCHERS OFFICERS CAN ADD INFORMATION TO THE CAD REFRESHED BY THE UNIT IN THE FIELD IMMEDIATELY AND CAN BE RECALLED AT ANY TIME THE LICENSE PLATE WAS ADDED TO THE CALL. NOTE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SOLD 6 MONTHS PRIOR WITH NO CURRENT REGISTERED OWNER

14 VEHICLE INFORMATION AND REPORT OF SALE STATE DOL DATA BASE

15 UNITS WERE ABLE TO SEARCH THE CAD USING THE LICENSE PLATE THE LICENSE PLATE WAS IN SEVERAL CALLS WITH THE MOST RECENT BEING LESS THAN 24 HRS PRIOR THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN STOPPED FOR A TRAFFIC STOP AND THE DRIVER IDENTIFIED AS A KNOWN GANG MEMBER IN ANOTHER JURISDICTION THERE WAS NO REPORT WRITTEN BUT THE INFORMATION WAS IN THE CAD CAD IS SEARCHABLE FOR NAMES, PHONE NUMBERS, LICENSE PLATES ETC..

16 ONE OF THE OCCUPANTS WAS IDENTIFIED AS MARVIN HURST

17 A RECENT BOOKING PHOTO WAS SHOWN TO THE VICTIM AND WITNESS. BOTH POSTIVELY IDENTFIED HURST AS THE SUSPECT WITH THE GUN.

18 PREIVOUS REPORTS WERE REVIEWED TO SEE WHERE THE SUSPECT LAST KNOWN RESIDENCE A GANG DATA BASE ACCESSED WHICH HAD THE SUSPECT ADDRESS

20 WANTED INFORMATION ENTERED INTO ELECTRONIC TURNOUT FOR ALL SHIFTS AND NEARBY JURISDICTIONS TO BOLO THIS IS SEARCHABLE

21 THE VEHICLE WAS LOCATED AT HIS RESIDENCE WITHIN 2 HRS BUT HE HAD ALREADY FLED ON FOOT A FELONY CAUTION WARRANT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR HIS ARREST.

23 Through technology today’s law enforcement officer is much more:  Efficient  Effective  Proactive  Safe

24  Data needs in the field will only increase  Coverage across Pierce County is inadequate  Current commercial systems limit our capabilities  During major events commercial systems will likely be overloaded as we experienced with just voice during the Nisqually Earthquake
