2 WE ARE ALL FRUIT AND VEGETABLES PEOPLE All the classes involved in this project, starting with the first graders (7 years old) up to the eight graders (14/15 years old) took part in this activity, developing different forms of approaching the theme (debates, drawings, models of fruit and vegetables, salads, healthy sandwiches, exhibitions, questionnaires, recipes, etc.)

3 The main objectives of this activity were: - to help students develop their skills in reaching the best decisions to protect themselves from harmful influences. Our students have been given the tools and competences to select their food carefully -to raise students awareness regarding their right of choosing

20 Let ’ s eat healthy to keep ourselves in shape Class:8B Teacher: MANUELA IONESCU I. Let`s eat well/healthy for: *A harmonious growth *To keep ourselves in shape *To be thin II. To keep ourselves in shape -Eat fish and vegetables.They’re good for your health. -Don’t eat too much meat. -Drink fruit juice or milk.

To be thin -Eat salad. -Drink water. -Don’t eat cakes or too much bread either. -If you are hungry between meals, you’d better eat fruit. -If you are thirsty, don’t drink things which are too sweet. IV. To eat healthy,get informed! A. Important advice for the consumers ’ health: *Buy only packed alimentary products and check the wrappings integrity! *Check the period of validity written on the wrapping! *Follow the indications on the wrapping about the keeping conditions and using of the product! *Read carefully the label of the product and the list of ingredients!

THE FOOD LABELS must contain: The name of the food The ingredients list The quantity of the ingredients The net amount for pre-packed food The date of minimum durability or the term of availability The keeping conditions C. E# a codification for food additives The maximum accepted dose D. 100 BEST FOOD FOR HEALTH V. DEVELOPED ACTIVITIES A. A tasty and nutritious sandwich Each pupil prepared a tasty and nutritious sandwich for the morning snack considering the previous discussion.

23 B. Put in order the dialogue between Stephan, a teenager and his doctor: Aren’t you hungry? You are pretty skinny, what do you eat? No,I haven’t any friends in Bucharest. Don’t you eat meat, fish? In order to be hungry you have to practice sports. Do you practice sports? Hello doctor, I’m not quite fit. Meat, fish ? No, I don’t like them. I’m not hungry and I’m sad. Do you have any friends? No. I rather stay at home. I read, I listen to music, I make clean. What’s up? No at all, I hate sport. You don’t practice sports. But do you go out, go to the countryside on weekend? C. Give some advice to Stephan to keep fit You need to meet your friends.

25 F. TEST: SALTY OR SWEET?

26 QUIZ SALTY OR SWEET? Choose one answer for each question: 1) In the morning you prefer:  Eggs, bacon and cheese with bread and white-coffee;  Cookies and hot white chocolate with a lot of sugar;  Corn flakes with milk, a fruit and coffee;  Cheese, a fruit and tea. 2) At lunch, what do you eat?  A sandwich with bacon and cheese;  A big tart with fruits;  A chocolate cake;  A salad with an egg and bacon;  A hamburger with a lot of ketchup and French fries;  A tomato with chicken or tuna, without bread. 3) What do you prefer eating in the evening, at the end of the dinner?  Cheese with bread;  Tea;  A big cake;  A tart with fruits and ice-cream;  A salad.

27 4) If you are hungry during the day, what do you eat?  Cakes or cookies;  A fruit;  Cheese;  Chocolate with ice-cream;  An egg;  Bread. 5) You go to a confectionery. What do you drink?  Water;  Tea;  White chocolate with sugar;  A coke;  White coffee.

28 RESULTS More than 5  - It is too salty and it is not good for your health. To be at one’s best, you also must eat fruits and even chocolate. 3 or 4  - You do not like eating? Are you a little bit thin? Come on, take a cookie! It is very good! More than 5  - You like sweet things and you adore cakes and chocolate. Be careful not to get fat. To look well practice sport and eat fruit and vegetables. You have   - Good job! You like eating both salty and sweet. You look well, don’t you? You like eating healthy and you enjoy life. Go on! 29 HEALTHY RECIPES 8 C STRUDEL WITH STRAWBERRIES AND CARAMELISED APPLE INGREDIENTS: -pastry 800 g -strawberries 400 g -2 big apples -4 spoons of sugar -1 teaspoon of cinnamon -2 spoons of lemon juice -20 g butter

30 PREPARATION: -caramelize the apples with the sugar and cinnamon; -split the pastry into 2 or 3 parts; -cut the pastry into stripes and put apples in the middle; -cover all with another strudel dough and place the strawberries on the top; -grease an oven tray with butter and place the dough stripes on it; -keep the tray in the oven for 40-45 minutes; -when the strudel is ready, sprinkle some powder sugar over it.
