3 High School Honors Courses Offered in all 4 core subjects (English, Math, History, Science) Selection Process: – Returning Students: One teacher recommendation Must have an average of an 87 in the subject matter being considered for honors – Teacher Recommendation for new students based on the following: An average stanine of 7 in the subject matter being considered for honors AND No grade lower than an 87 on the previous year’s final report card grade in the subject matter being considered for honors OR

4 Potential for honors based on observation of teacher which is determined by the student’s work ethic and ability. Teachers can decide if the student no longer qualifies for honors if the student breaks the honors contract. Parent, student, and academic dean signatures are required to complete the contract. Students will follow a 10 point grading scale which will be reflected on the final transcript. High School Honors Courses

5 Dual enrollment is the simultaneous enrollment of a student at both high school and college in which the student receives credit on both their high school and college transcripts for the same course. Students may enroll in college courses at local technical, community and/or four-year colleges. Students enrolled in a college course follow the college curriculum. The course is taught by either the college instructor or a high school instructor who is approved to teach the college course. Dual Enrollment/Early Start

6 With dual enrollment, students may begin accumulating college credits while still in high school, thus providing a smoother transition to college after high school graduation. Students also have the opportunity to complete college faster by earning college credits while still in high school. Students must meet the admission standards of the college awarding the credit. Admissions standards vary between technical colleges, community colleges, and four-year universities. Contact the individual institution and/or a professional school counselor to discuss admission standards and other details regarding dual enrollment. Dual Enrollment/Early Start

7 Senior Privileges Privileges, not entitlements – Reward for modeling positive leadership to underclassmen Will be determined by the senior class and the Dean of Students Dean of Students will have the list of 5 privileges approved by the administration. Students, parents, and administration will sign a contract outlining privileges and expectations. May be revoked

8 Early Release Eligibility determined by Mrs. Plaisance Parents must sign early release form and return to the front office Is a contract between the school, the parent, and the student about the student’s attendance May be revoked at any time if the student is found to be in violation of the contract

9 Senior Portraits Taken with Barberito Photography – Phone: (504) 455-6818 Portraits include – Tux (Male)/Drape (Female) – Cap and Gown Portrait Fee – Usually $35 – If taken during the summer, the fee is only $20 *CCCS Policy: Pictures must be taken by November 30, in order for student’s graduation picture to be included in the yearbook. Also, if you want to take pictures with your NHS stole or Student Council stole, check with the Student Life Office.

10 Graduation Ceremony: Participation Requirements Students must: (1)Seniors must have met or exceeded all CCCS course requirements for graduation and require no more than one Carnegie unit/credit of a core course for completion over the summer (by August 1 of the graduation year). (2)Attend all senior activities, including Graduation Practice, which lasts 2 hours and is held at least the day before graduation. (3)Have all balances paid in full (tuition, books, and other fees) and fulfilled all responsibilities (completion of the Application for Graduation Packet, provided one week before the last day of class).

11 CCCS Graduation Requirements Located in documents library on college and career website Includes the Louisiana Core 4 Curriculum and 2 additional requirements – CCCS requires a year of Bible for every year of attendance – CCCS requires a minimum of ½ credit in Financial Math at the Senior Level to match the national initiative.

13 Academic Distinctions at Graduation CCCS Honors Graduates – Awarded to students with cumulative GPAs of 90% and above National Honor Society – Awarded to NHS members (selected through induction process)

14 Academic Distinctions at Graduation Valedictorian Has been a student at CCCS for entire Junior and Senior year AND Has the highest overall GPA AND Has completed Physics and Advanced Math. Salutatorian Has been a student at CCCS for entire Junior and Senior year AND Has the second highest overall GPA AND Has completed Physics and Advanced Math.

15 TOPS Scholarship Award Please refer to handout in student folder regarding TOPS and college help sheet. – “Louisiana Tops Award” We have a LOSFA representative speak to our parents of juniors and seniors once a year (usually in January) about TOPS and FAFSA. TOPS Eligibility is NOT calculated on your student’s cumulative GPA. *Rising Seniors have TOPS Core Progress Report and Local Transcript in folders. – Refer to TOPS GPA in student folder – TOPS does NOT round up (2.49 does not round up to required 2.50).

18 TOPS Scholarship Awards To apply for TOPS, parents and students must complete the FAFSA application in the spring of the student’s senior year. State law requires that you make an election at the beginning of each year starting when your child enters the eighth grade as to whether you give or deny consent for this school to collect your child’s Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and disclose it to the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) for TOPS and other financial aid or to the state’s colleges and universities (Institutions) for admissions. We will no longer provide your child’s transcript data to LOSFA and the Institutions without your permission. Please include your Social Security Number on your ACT registration; this is how your information is matched in the system. Required ACT Composite score must be attained by the April Test Date.

19 ACT Test Dates Students should take the ACT at least once during the spring of their sophomore year and once during spring of their junior year. ACT Prep is offered at least one time before student graduates. The ACT can be taken up to 12 times. LOSFA (TOPS) ACT report code is 1595. LOSFA (TOPS) SAT report code is 9019. NCAA report code is 9999.

20 Standardized Testing Juniors take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in the (PSAT/NMSQT) in the fall and the Terra Nova test in the spring. Seniors take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) in the fall.

22 Financial Aid Free Application for Federal Student Aid To receive any type of financial aid (scholarship, loan, or grant), all students must complete the FAFSA.

23 FAFSA You may file your FAFSA beginning in Spring semester of your child’s senior year after you have submitted your federal tax return. To complete the FAFSA application, you must have the following: 1. PIN Number for Parent/Student (may apply for a pin on site (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov) 2. Completed 1040 Tax Return 3. Current W-2s

25 Louisiana College Admissions for Class of 2014 LA colleges determine admission on a standard called the Regents Core. – Different from the Louisiana Core 4 curriculum for graduation and the TOPS Core Curriculum Regents Core based on 19 Carnegie Units and is effective for Fall 2012.

28 ACT and Louisiana College Admissions New beginning with the Class of 2012 To be admitted to a Flagship (Tier 1), Statewide (Tier 2), or Regional (Tier 3) school, you must have the following ACT sub-scores: *English ≥ 18 *Math ≥ 19 – No Developmental Courses can be needed.

29 College Admissions Most college applications must be completed on-line. – APPLY EARLY Require an application fee – Varies in cost between $25 and $45 An admissions application must be on file in order for financial aid to be considered. – Some colleges have separate Scholarship Applications. – Some colleges allow for the Admissions Application to serve as the Scholarship Application.

30 Recommendations for Summer Schedule visits to schools of interest. Gather information about costs (tuition, fees, room and board). Check on scholarships offered by that school. Write down important dates. – Admissions Deadlines – Scholarship Deadlines – ACT Deadlines Narrow choices to 2-3 schools by the start of your senior year. Refer to College Help Sheet in folder.

31 Recommendations for Fall Register to take the ACT if you need it Use your CCCS-sanctioned college visit days to see the schools of your choice Begin filling out your college applications Research private scholarship opportunities and see your College and Career Advisor for help, too! Check on room and board options; some schools require separate applications for dorms and apartments—complete them early! Refer to College and Career Website.
