2 Elections and the constitution Read and precis chapter 2 of Bennett, ‘US Govt and Politics’

3 A starter for 10.... Produce a diagram which explains the election of the President of the USA. Include two sections. The first for the nomination process, the second the election.

4 Student presentations……. Students to produce power point presentations for the class. Each groups will present on one of the following areas: 1. Elections and the constitution. Looking at Presidential and Congressional elections (including the recruitment of candidates). 2. Factors and issues influencing candidate selection. Including Primaries and Caucuses, the National Nominating Conventions, the workings of the Electoral College and its impact on campaigns.

5 Student presentations……. Group 3. The importance of money in recent and contemporary American election campaigns. Group 4. The role of the media in recent and contemporary election campaigns. Group 5. The use of referendums. Initiatives and propositions at state level and debates concerning their use.
