2 Physical Science Lesson Plans March 12, 2012 OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook: Explain Magnetism. How can things be magnetized? EQ: What are the properties of magnets? GPS:S8P5: Students will recognize characteristics of gravity, electricity, and magnetism as major kinds of forces acting in nature. S8P5c.Investigate and explain that electric current and magnets can exert force on each other WORK SESSION: Post-Test for Data collection Discussion and Illustrations: Magnetism Grade Recovery for Physical Science CLOSING: In your Interactive Notebook answer the following question: Name three properties of magnets. HOMEWORK: Study for Vocabulary Quiz to be given on Wednesday. March 14, 2012

3 Georgia Studies Lesson Plans March 13, 2012 OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook explain in your own words “Reform and “Populism”. EQ: What changes were goals of the progressive movement? What were the goals of the populists in Georgia? GPS: SS8H7 The student will evaluate key political, social, and economic changes that occurred in Georgia between 1877 and 1918. WORK SESSION: The Progressive Movement and Southern Politics in Action- Power Point Notes/Discussion Graphic Organizer “Progressive Era Social Reforms” complete in class. Georgia Stories: Child Labor and the Textile Mill and The Birth of the Girl Scouts View and Discuss CLOSING: In your Interactive Notebook answer the following: How did the labor reforms of the Progressive Period influence Labor today? 5 Physical Science Lesson Plans March 14, 2012 OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook: Explain why you think that some pieces of iron are more magnetic than others. EQ: What is the relationship between an electric current and a magnetic field? GPS:S8P5: Students will recognize characteristics of gravity, electricity, and magnetism as major kinds of forces acting in nature. S8P5c.Investigate and explain that electric current and magnets can exert force on each other WORK SESSION: Vocabulary Quiz Power Point Notes and Discussion on Electromagnetism Create a concept map using the following terms: Electromagnetism, electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction, generators, and transformers. CLOSING: In your Interactive Notebook answer the following question: What is the difference between a step-up transformer and a step-down transformer? Explain HOMEWORK: Complete any work not completed in class.

6 Georgia Studies Lesson Plans March 15, 2012 OPENING: Brainstorm things or people you think of when you hear “Civil Rights” How many Cokes do you drink in a period of one week? How much money do you think is made from the purchase of Coco Cola. Why is that product so important in Georgia businesses? EQ: In what ways did Georgians fight for civil rights during the progressive era? How did Georgia businesses grow during the progressive era? GPS:SS8H7 The student will evaluate key political, social, and economic changes that occurred in Georgia between 1877 and 1918. a. Evaluate the impact the Bourbon Triumvirate, Henry Grady, International Cotton Exposition, Tom Watson and the Populists, Rebecca Latimer Felton, the 1906 Atlanta Riot, the Leo Frank Case, and the county unit system had on Georgia during this period. b. Analyze the denial of rights to African-Americans through Jim Crow laws, Plessy v. Ferguson disenfranchisement, and racial violence. c. Explain the roles of Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Dubois, John and Lugenia Burns Hope, and Alonzo Herndon. SS8E1: The student will give examples of the kinds of goods and services produced in Georgia in different historical periods. WORK SESSION: Power Point Notes/Discussion, Graphic Organizer: The Continuing Fight for Civil Rights and Business in Georgia Activity: Who said it in the fight for Equality? Race Riot of 1906 and The New South and Leo Frank- Georgia Stories (Discussion) Create a Graphic Organizer of The Three First Businesses started in Georgia- Tell when they started, Who, Why, How and how much money did they make. CLOSING: What did Plessy v. Ferguson accomplish? What early business in Georgia do you think was the most successful and Why? HOMEWORK: Study for Vocabulary Quiz on Monday, March 19, 2012. Complete any work not completed in class.

7 Physical Science Lesson Plans March 16, 2012 OPENING: In your Interactive Notebook explain all you know at this time about Electromagnet and Solenoid. EQ: What are the ways that a magnet can induce electric current in a wire? GPS:S8P5: Students will recognize characteristics of gravity, electricity, and magnetism as major kinds of forces acting in nature. S8P5c.Investigate and explain that electric current and magnets can exert force on each other WORK SESSION: PhET Magnetism Lab Students will go the Media Center to complete this simulation and answer Lab Questions on Electricity and Magnetism Website: http://phet.colorado.eduhttp://phet.colorado.edu To help to understand the direction of field in magnet. To help to understand how the needle of a compass works. To help to understand the flow of current. This simulation will be used to reinforce the concepts taught by giving a visual hands-on interactive demonstrations. CLOSING: In your Interactive Notebook answer the following question: How does an electromagnet work? HOMEWORK: NONE
