11 Possible Cons ● Change! By nature we are often hesitant to change. ● Initially may cause change with family routines. ● Every time you go to work it is for 48 hours, meaning a longer block of time away from your family. ● Both days of the weekend would be worked 9 times annually. ● Second shift could be more demanding if a busy first shift occurred. ● Perception that department participation may decrease with new schedule. ● Short term fatigue

12 Possible Pros ● Increased interoperability with local departments (10 of the 14 surrounding Santa Clara County cities work a 48/96 schedule). ● Better continuity of workflow for two days in a row. ● Less possibility of long term fatigue. ● Every time you go home you have 4 days off in a row. ● More consecutive days off with family, less fragmented. ● 50% increase in mornings at home with family. ● 9 more full weekends (Sat & Sun) off per year. ● 5 more “long” weekends (Fri, Sat & Sun) off per year. ● Commute miles, time on the road, and all related travel costs reduced by 50%, no matter if you live near or far.
