The Scientific Method
2
The scientific method is the only scientific way accepted to back up a theory or idea. This is the method on which all research projects should be based. The Scientific Method is used by researchers to support or disprove a theory.
3
The Scientific Method The Scientific Method involves 6 steps: Ask a Question Form A Hypothesis Design an Experiment Collect and Analyze Data Draw a Conclusion Communicate Results
4
The Scientific Method Ask a Question- You ask a question about what you observe. State the problem or question.
5
The Scientific Method Form a Hypothesis- You predict what you think the answer to your question might be. It needs to be something you can test and measure.
6
The Scientific Method Design an experiment - You figure out a way to test whether the hypothesis is correct. The outcome must be measurable (quantitative).
7
The Scientific Method Collect and Analyze Data- You do the experiment using the method you came up with and record the results in a data table. You repeat the experiment to confirm your results by retesting.
8
The Scientific Method Draw a Conclusion- Create a chart or graph that will help you state whether your prediction was confirmed or not. This will also help you to explain your results.
9
The Scientific Method Communicate Results- Either write a paper or speech regarding the results of your experiment.
